  • copper flashings, gutters, and downspout work

THE CHALLENGE

During a severe thunderstrom, high winds blew a large tree onto the antiquated roofing system breaking many tiles and tile accessories. Providing information to the insurance carrier was critical and time sensitive, as there were hundreds of broken tiles. Temporary dry-in services were provided by Renaissance immediately after the storm. Renaissance houses one of the largest salvaged tile selections in the country. However, Mound City type C glazed tiles are increasingly difficult to procure, as the company closed down almost 100 years ago. While there are some Mound City tiles available on the salvage market there were not nearly enough to complete the necessary repairs.

THE RENAISSANCE SOLUTION

After some negotiations with the insurance provider, all parties agreed, the common sense solution was to remove the entire Mound City system and install a new green glazed Ludowici Spanish clay tile system.

Renaissance Historic Exteriors removed all Mound City clay tiles and salvaged the tiles that could be reused. New Ludowici green glazed Spanish tiles and accessories were produced by the manufacturer and Renaissance installed the new custom roofing system complete with new copper guttering, copper downspouts, collector boxes, and custom flashings.

THE RESULTS

Renaissance Historic Exteriors provided an aesthetically beautiful, architurally accurate clay tile roof system that will continue to protect the historic home in Clayton, Missouri for decades to come.

The homeowner could not have been happier with the results.
