Private Residence (JB)

University City, MO

Renaissance was contacted by the homeowner when he found broken slate pieces on the ground. Renaissance performed an MBA (Magellan Building Assessment) and presented the report and photos to the homeowner.

A portion of the roof had been replaced in 1974 after hail damage but the homeowner decided to have the entire roof properly replaced with the plan to hand down the home to family members.

Work Included

  • Complete natural slate roof restoration
  • Masonry/brick work
  • architectural sheet metal work
  • carpentry work
  • new copper gutters
  • new copper downspouts

THE CHALLENGE

This home is located on the corner of a prominent street in St. Louis, Missouri so building scaffolding to protect the home, prized landscaping, workers, and residents (and not disturb the neighbors) was the first challenge encountered.

The second challenge was the proper blending and installation of a random width and color patterned slate roof to match the original design while following current roofing codes and standards.

The third challenge was performing the soldering of newly installed copper gutters and flashings while properly following fire safety protocals to ensure safety for all concerned.

THE RENAISSANCE SOLUTION

The Renaissance team of experienced personnel was able to come together and put many pieces of this puzzel together to execute a safe, well installed natural slate roofing system for our client's home of 30+ years.

In addition to the slate roof, copper gutters & downspouts the Renaissance team coordinated the masonry work on two heavily deteriorated chimneys that were rebuilt to complete all major work in the most difficult of areas to access.

THE RESULTS

Our client was left with the feeling of satisfaction in the properly installed 100-year roof system. No mess to clean up and a show piece to friends, family, and neighbors.
