THE CHALLENGE
Time and weather had taken its toll on these historic buildings and Renaissance was chosen for the restoration because of their expertise and commitment to historic restoration.
Work on these buildings had to be completed while the buildings were in use which required several stories of scaffolding to allow work to continue safely for the Renaissance crew and ensure safe access to the buildings for the students and staff.
THE RENAISSANCE SOLUTION
The work included the replacement of 840 squares of slate roofing; 3,000 linear feet of custom copper gutters & hangers; 2,000 linear feet of custom copper hip & ridge to match originals; and 10,000 square feet of gypsum roof deck repairs.
The work also included 26 new standing seam copper dormer tops to match the originals; new copper flashings; new copper finials to match the originals; a new 16' tall copper cupola to match the original; carpentry and paint work on the dormers; clay tile roof repair; and built-up roofing systems on flat roofs.
THE RESULTS
With the restoration completed, the copper cupola and cross on St. Joseph's Hall is again visible from miles away as a landmark for this graduate school.
